On May 4th 2012, MasterPeace, based in Cairo and
Utrecht, officially launched its first global mini-documentary, ‘Music above
Fighting’. This documentary tells the story of three conflicts, where two
people from the different sides come together to sing ‘Imagine’ of John Lennon
near a separating wall. The conflict areas represented in the documentary are
Belfast in Ireland, the border area between Indian and Pakistan, and Jerusalem,
at the border between Israel and Palestine. The camera moves along with people
who are separated from their neighbors by a wall. It shows how deconstructive
the wall is, both mentally and physically. It is a story of people who try to
live and communicate through music, a language that goes beyond bombs, fighting
and differences.
'Music above Fighting' portrays the vision of
MasterPeace with photographic shots, focusing on its major goal to involve
people in peace building. As peace building is a verb, MasterPeace wants to
mobilize millions of people everywhere around the world to put music above
fighting. Through different initiatives, MasterPeace is focusing on peace
building in the broadest sense, including (social) sustainability, the
reduction of (nuclear) weaponry and (armed) conflicts.
